Coin graded
I spoke at length with a dealer at a coin show last weekend. During the conversation he told me that he had acquired a "great" unc. Mercury dime several months ago. He sent it to PCGS for grading and said they "sent it back to me in a body bag saying it had been cleaned".
The dealer went on to say that he put the dime in a paper bag and set it out on his deck for a week or so and then mailed it back to PCGS. According to him, PCGS graded it and mailed it back to him. :) |

Re: Coin graded
Implies that people can make mistakes? Or that coin grading is a scam? Or...

Re: Coin graded
Yes, I think it's a hype. I stay with bullion, I know my value.

He just said PCGS graded and slabbed it, and he didn't say whether the bag was wet. My guess is that sulfer and maybe other chemicals in the paper caused the coin to tone somewhat? |
